Driver

Tom’s feedback

Charlie wasn’t fitted for his current driver. He has a good swing and he is very consistent, so we didn’t need a lot of adjustability. Plus, Charlie wanted more forgiveness so we went straight towards the TaylorMade M2. We matched the spec with his old driver, but Charlie was producing too much spin. Therefore, we dropped down to a 9.5 ̊ head. I wanted Charlie to get to a 15 ̊ launch angle with mid-2000 rpm spin and that’s what the 9.5 ̊ head delivered.

Charlie’s feedback

The TaylorMade M2 driver felt good off the face and I was getting a nice high launch angle. By the end, I was hitting more good ones than bad ones – the results were strong. The distance was up by about ten or 15 yards and the consistency of yardage was certainly there.

Fairway wood

Charlie’s current fairway woods are quite old and the heads are very small. The results came straight away when we went into a 15 ̊ M2 with a standard stiff shaft. It produced a high launch and more distance, but it was the forgiveness that made the biggest difference.

I tend not to use my fairway woods very often – they are fairly ancient! In terms of yardage, they don’t give me an awful lot, so I tried the M2 3-wood and there was a big difference – a good 20 yards.

Hybrid

We looked at the distance gap we wanted to plug at the top end of Charlie’s bag, and it made sense to go straight into a 3-hybrid with the same shaft as the fairway wood. Again, the M2 was the right model because the adjustability wasn’t required and he wanted the extra forgiveness.

Charlie’s feedback

The hybrid I currently carry is harder to hit than the TaylorMade M2. Almost from the off I was hitting really good shots with the Rescue. I was also getting a consistent 200 yards of distance too.
