Lee Westwood's victory at the St. Jude Classic last week has boosted the Englishman's confidence, and he hopes for the fine run to continue at the US Open this week.
The Californian coastline of Pebble Beach has become a familiar course to Westwood, already having had a couple of practice rounds before the St. Jude at Memphis.
The Worksop man adopted similar preparation at the first Major at Augusta National in April this year, where he finished second behind Phil Mickelson.
"I did it for the Masters and it was successful there. So I figured I better do it for the US Open as well," said Westwood.
The success at the St. Jude Classic comes as perfect preparation for the US Open this week, but Westwood's main challenge is to fulfill his own expectations.
He added: "Especially over the last couple of years I've been putting myself in a position to win a Major and feel like I ought to be expected to win a Major now.
"I like being competitive before a Major championship, to be competitive with the tournament and boost my confidence," Westwood told reporters.
Westwood is still searching for a first Major title but, with a newly-found focused mind and some thorough preparation, he will feel in good shape for the US Open this week.
