Vijay Singh takes USGA invite for US Open
Vijay Singh has accepted a special invitation from the United States Golf Association (USGA) to compete in the US Open
Vijay Singh has accepted a special invitation from the United States Golf Association (USGA) to compete in the US Open.
Singh had planned to enter a qualifying event for the US Open at Pebble Beach, however the USGA has invited the 47-year-old, which will continue the Fijian's amazing run of consecutive Major championship starts.
Singh has played in 63 straight Majors, which is more than any other golfer playing regularly today.
"I'm finally back to good health and really looking forward to competing," Singh said in a statement released by the USGA.
"It's a fantastic event at a legendary venue."
The chairman of the USGA's championship committee, Thomas O'Toole Jr, commented: "There were many compelling reasons for us to invite Vijay Singh into the field of this year's US Open, particularly his three wins in Majors in the last 12 years."
The US Open begins on June 17 at the extended Pebble Beach.
