US Open Field Increased After Sectional Qualifying

57 golfers have progressed to the US Open after 11 qualifying events in The U.S.

On Monday 3rd June, 11 different sites around the United States held 2 day US Open qualifiers, with 57 places up for grabs.

At Brookside Golf & Country Club in Ohio, two-time PGA Tour winner, Charley Hoffman finished -11, one clear of David Hearn, Nicholas Thompson, Robert Karlsson and Josh Teater all of whom earned a place next week. Other notable qualifiers were the HP Byron Nelson Championship winner Sang-Moon Bae, David Lingmerth, Aaron Baddeley and Luke Guthrie.  

2003 Masters Champion, Mike Weir failed to progress along with Brendan de Jonge and Jeff Overton. Australian, Scott Gardiner had to borrow clubs after his failed to arrive in time, shooting a superb 65 on the Monday, before crashing out with a 74.

At Colonial in Memphis, Kevin Sutherland finished one shot ahead of Shawn Stefani and 3-time Tour winner Jerry Kelly. Scott Langley's hole-in-one on the 8th helped him qualify, whilst in-form Scott Stallings missed out through a playoff.

In New York at Old Oaks and Century Country Clubs, a 3-way tie at the top between Geoff Sisk, Jesse Smith and amateur Gavin Hall all qualified. 8-time Tour winner Brad Faxon missed out by one shot.

At Woodmont in Maryland, 3 Web.com players, Adam Hadwin, Randall Hutchison and Russell Knox all shot -9 to qualify, whilst stalwart Fred Funk finished 2 shots off a playoff and crashed out.  

PGA Tour rookie Jordan Spieth finished top at Lakewood in Texas, alongside Matt Weibring and Edward Loar. 3-time PGA Tour winner Ryan Palmer was beaten in a playoff by local Zack Fischer and will not tee up at Merion.

Brian Stuard stormed the Springfield, Ohio section by 6 shots, with Wells Fargo Championship winner Derek Ernst shooting 138 and missing out.

At Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Georgia, Michael Kim and Ryan Nelson shot -11 to progress whilst Kevin Phelan won at the Ritz-Carlton Members Golf Club in Florida.

Will Collins qualified for his 2nd US Open at Tumble Creek Club in Washington, whilst Champions Tour player Jay Don Blake won by 3 shots at Old Warson Country Club in St.Louis and Bio Kim progressed in California, winning by 4 shots.
