US Open 2016 Day 1 Round Up
Only half the field got onto the course with only nine men finishing their rounds
Day One at the 2016 US Open at Oakmont was a wash-out, as bad weather meant that very little play was seen.
US Open 2016 Day 1 Round Up
Day 1 at the 116th US Open was effectively a wash-out, as just nine men completed their opening rounds whilst half of the field didn't even begin.
Of the golfers who did get out there and play, Andrew Landry is the leading man.
The relatively unknown American had a putt to go to 6-under-par, which he missed, and then made two late bogeys to drop to 3-under, although he does have a 10 footer on the last for birdie to shoot 66.
With rain early, the course was playing extremely soft and Oakmont was playing probably as easiest as it will throughout the whole week.

Later as the rain and thunder clouds passed, the winds began to pick up and as the players began to lose their rhythm, scores began to get worse.
US Amateur champion Bryson DeChambeau was 3-under through eight holes but then went double-double. He's 1-over.
Bubba Watson is 2-under through 14 holes after a monster birdie putt at the 10th.
Lee Westwood is at one-under through 13 in a round which included a stunning hole-out eagle 2 on the 14th.
Clubhouse leader, out of the nine men who finished, is US amateur Scottie Scheffler who came in with a one-under 69.

Defending champion Jordan Spieth is 1-over through 11 after a short missed par putt on the 2nd (his 11th hole). He's still right in the tournament.
The marquee group of McIlroy, Willett and Fowler all struggled to a combined +14. McIlroy and Willett are both 4-over whilst Fowler is 6-over.
Round one resumes today at 12.30pm UK time.
