One Last Chance for US Open Invite
7 players are on the edge of a final qualifying spot for the US Open
There is one more opportunity for players to qualify for next week's US Open, as everyone inside the top 60 in the Official World Golf Rankings at week's end will earn a spot at Merion.
With most of the current top 60 already qualified - the top 60 on May 27th were granted exemptions - a small group of players are teetering on the brink of gaining an 11th hour invite.
Bernd Wiesberger is currently occupying the 61st position and will be lining up at his home tournament, the Lyoness Open this week, in a bid to not only defend his title, but to sneak an invite to Merion. His 3rd place finish at the Nordea Masters last week moved him up 10 places.
Charles Howell III narrowly missed out on the Masters by 4 places, even though he finished T10 at the Shell Houston Open, which was the final tournament before the cut off point. He is now 8 positions off an invite for Merion and does line up at the FedEx St.Jude Classic this week, alongside Jimmy Walker who is currently one place above him.
In form Kyle Stanley does not play this week, but is 59th in the World, having recorded a 3rd place finish at the Memorial Tournament last week. It was his 3rd top 6 finish in 5 events, propelling him 31 places in the rankings. He had attempted to make sure of a spot by teeing up at the local qualifiers on Monday and Tuesday, however he finished two shots outside a playoff.
Alexander Noren (64th), Chris Wood (65th) and Mikko Ilonen (69th) are on the verge of the top 60 but are not playing this week.
