Amateur round-up from the US Open

There were 16 amateurs in the field at Chambers Bay.

Of the 156-man field at the US Open, there were 16 men of which not very much was expected.

Amateurs have, of course, fared reasonably well in the past, such as Beau Hossler's T29 in 2012.

There was to be no major upset this year, but there were some performances to be proud of. Here's a round-up of all 16 amateurs who took part in the tournament.

Brian Campbell - The American finished T27, carding an impressive round of 67 on Thursday, before slipping back down the leaderboard with a 78 on Saturday.

Bryson Dechambeau - Ranked at no. 13 in the amateur rankings, Dechamebau missed the cut with rounds of 74 and 75.

Beau Hossler - He couldn't match his impressive performance in 2012, but Hossler's +12 finish at Chambers Bay was better than many more established professionals.

Davis Riley - American Riley was among the unlucky ones to card a score in the 80s as he failed to make the weekend.

Kyle Jones - Jones, no. 16 in the amateur rankings, qualified for the tournament in Dallas, Texas, but didn't make the cut after rounds of 78 and 72.

Cole Hammer - After enduring an unprecedented amount of media exposure before the tournament started, 15-year-old Hammer should have no shame in carding rounds of 77 and 84.

Jack Maguire - The American managed to post one round in the red - a 68 on Friday - and even finished one shot ahead of Phil Mickelson.

Jake Knapp - After recording the only eagle on hole 18 on Friday, Knapp at least has a anecdote that won't be matched in spite of his missed cut.

Gunn Yang - The 2014 US Amateur Champion finished just behind fellow amateur Kyle Jones in missing the cut.

Nick Hardy - It was a weekend to remember for Hardy, who came through sectional qualifying in Ohio to be at Chambers Bay. He claimed a round in the red on Sunday and finished one ahead of Ernie Els.

Matthew Nesmith - While a first round of 76 did for Nesmith, he can at least claim to have finished above a recent Ryder Cup star in Stephen Gallacher.

Bradley Neil - Scotland's Bradley Neil has turned professional in the immediate aftermath of Chambers Bay, but he couldn't make the weekend cut.

Sam Horsfield - Ian Poulter is a fan of Horsfield's. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to inspire him to play his best golf and he finished with a 151 on Friday night.

Lee McCoy - Perhaps McCoy will be best remembered for the viral video of him bouncing the ball on one of the fairways during a practice round. He finished with two 74s.

Denny McCarthy - After qualifying at Woodmont Country Club, McCarthy enjoyed one of the better rounds from an amateur. He finished 12 shots behind Jordan Spieth.

Ollie Schniederjans - Similarly to McCarthy, Schniederjans finished 12 shots behind the eventual winner Spieth.
