Although initially appearing wider than the tee, Pinehurst's final fairway is actually smaller with its S turn. The landing area is also minimally uphill and hidden from the player at their tee shot. If using a driver at the tee, players will most likely have to use a mid-iron approach shot to the green that incorporate a hollow on the right hand side.
