Chambers Bay hole-by-hole guide: hole 1
A guide to hole 1, named 'Puget Sound', at Chambers Bay.
A guide to Chambers Bay's hole 1 ahead of the 2015 US Open.
Chambers Bay hole 1 - Puget Sound - Par 5 - 598 yards
The opening hole at Chambers Bay is somewhat of a rarity for this course. Throughout the other seventeen holes there are bunkers and waste areas whose size would make your eyes water. However, the only bunkers on Puget Sound are almost tucked into the banks.
That isn't to say they won't be found at some point, but there is certainly a reasonable amount of fairway in which to hit. The green itself is positioned similarly to the bunkers, in that it's tight to the bank.
There's plenty of space to the left in which to chip on, but there's another small bunker worth keeping an eye on that runs off the back of the green.
