Royal Liverpool Golf Club
One of Britain's most famous links golf courses, Hoylake has hosted the Open Championsip on no less than eleven occasions.
It may not always have the baked fairways and parched greens of 2006, but that year's Open served to remind the golfing world of the true nature of links golf.
It's a course of many parts, with the opening and closing holes played over a flat expanse in front of the clubhouse.
The middle stretch then dives between dunes before peering out over the Dee estuary. Royal Liverpool is the second oldest English links, so the immaculate and welcoming 19th is well worth exploring. "Breeder of mighty champions" is how Bernard Darwin described it, and they don't come much mightier than Tiger Woods.
