Turkey: Golf courses - The Papillon Montgomerie and Cornelia
Defying the recession, Turkey is building more and more new courses, some of them truly outstanding and with enormous potential, such as Carya designed by Peter Thomson
Colin Montgomerie worked on the course with European Golf Design and course completes a trio of European Golf Design courses in the Belek region, the other two being the Sultan and Pasha at Antlaya Golf Club.
The course forms part of a new €2 million complex - the nine-hole course is floodlit – and the hotel is a 600-room five-star hotel with 31 holiday villas.
Nick Faldo’s Cornelia course is an excellent challenge as it weaves its way through a vast sand dune ridge, umbrella pines and beautiful lakes. Elevated tees offer some great views and the 7th and 8th are excellent par 4s, with and abundance of water and the possibility of taking on the green with a big drive if you want to take the risk!
The accommodation and full resort opened in June 2008, with the super 18-hole Perry Dye- designed golf links adjacent which opened in November 2008. Lykia is situated 35 minutes to the east from Belek and just over one hour from Antalya airport. This is Lykia’s second resort to have opened in Turkey, following the massive success of LykiaWorld Oludeniz, which in 2007 was named “Best Holiday Village on the Mediterranean”.
LykiaWorld Antalya raises the bar in quality of service, facilities, both for children and adult entertainment activities etc, and of course in food and beverage. Lykia has a new refreshing style, totally unique and unlike any other hotel in Belek, not just because of its privileged site on an isolated stretch of the Mediterranean, but because of its concept. It has a “once in a life time ambience”, with an ocean of activities on offer during your stay. There are acrobats, jugglers, musicians, magicians in the resort, always doing impromptu performances to charm and entertain you. There are a wide array of sporting activities for everyone and the design concept is very clever, because the resort is split into two distinct areas, the family side and the golfers side, which have very different ambiences and styles in terms of building, facilities and restaurants. It is in essence a resort which wraps up several worlds of activity into one.
