A round up of who said what in the aftermath of Jason Day’s record victory

It would have been very tough for me to come back from a Major championship such as this if I didn’t finish it off. Knowing that I had the 54-hole led or tied for the 54-hole lead for the last three Majors and not being able to finish, it would have been tough for me mentally, to really kind of come back from that. Even though I feel like I’m a positive person I think that, in the back of my mind, something would have triggered and I would have gone, ‘maybe I can’t really finish it off’. Jason Day

He’s taken me from a kid that was getting in fights at home and getting drunk at 12 and not heading in the right direction to a Major champion. And there are not many coaches that can say that in many sports. So he means the world to me. I love him to death. Jason Day on his coach and caddie, Colin Swatton

With the conditions that we faced on the first day and the conditions that we faced today, I thought anything between 10- and 15-under would have a great chance to win, but obviously the standard is just so high these days. I didn't see close to 20-under par winning this tournament. Rory McIlroy Coming back after the lay-off, not hitting a competitive shot in two months, shooting nine under was a decent effort. The ankle feels fine, but I'm just going to take a couple of weeks off and not need a strap or anything to play. And then after that I've got another week off, so by the time I'm in the middle of September, there will be no issues and hopefully I can give it a good run in the FedEx Cup. Overnight the ankle did swell a bit, but once I got it moving and compressed it a bit, it was fine. It probably won't look like a normal ankle for two or three months. Rory McIlroy

I had a putt on number 12 to get to 17 under. Jason, at that point, was at 18. I did all I could really through the front nine, and when I made the turn I really got in the tournament. The double bogey on 13 took the wind out of my sails. That's the thing about this golf course, there are birdies to be had, but if you get in the wrong spot, you can get a double real quick. Final day of the USPGA: the quotes

There's always disappointment. I don't think it will change my life. Winning changes your life. I played well, just more evidence that my game is there, and ready to compete again and win a Major Championship. So you take confidence from it. Justin Rose It's been a fantastic week. I've loved the golf course right from the first day and first look. But obviously I’m a little disappointed with that finish. It's massive for me. It gives me so much confidence. It also tells me that I can compete with the best on the toughest courses and the best fields. It also tells me that I need to get just a little bit better. Anirban Lahiri

Very happy for Jason. Great dude and well deserved. Hats off to Jordan, incredible season. Tiger Woods It’s by far the best loss I think I’ve ever had. To be World No. 1 as a team is fantastic. It certainly was a lifelong goal of mine that was accomplished today. Jordan Spieth He [Jason Day] was sitting there swinging as hard as he could off the tee. I mean, power to him. He played like he had won seven or eight Majors before. Jordan Spieth

It's going to be a brilliant Ryder Cup venue in 2020. Phil Mickelson
