Vijay Singh was born in Lautoka and grew up in Nadi where he started playing golf with old coconuts because his parents could not afford to buy golf balls.
He enjoyed success on the European Tour before joining the PGA Tour in 1993. In America he has landed an astonishing 31 titles, including the Masters in 2000, and the USPGA Championship in '98 and '04.

Indeed, 2004 was his best season, when he won no fewer than nine tournaments, including the Deutsche Bank Championship in September, to end Tiger Woods? 264 week reign as the world?s number one golfer. His whopping $10,905,166 earnings also led to him being named as the PGA Tour's Player of the Year.
