2013 Masters blog: Bubba's dinner

Robin Barwick gives his latest Masters blog instalment from Augusta National

Bubba Watson

Last night the Masters Club Dinner was held at Augusta National, or what is commonly known as the ‘Champions' Dinner', at which Augusta chairman Billy Payne hosts the most exclusive guest list in American golf: the Masters past champions. Green jackets required.

In keeping with another of the Masters' great traditions, the defending champion selects the menu (although we understand that a steak option is offered to guests who prefer not to indulge the defending champ).

This is what 2012 Masters winner Bubba Watson offered the champions last night:

Traditional Caesar salad

(A safe start: fresh and light, yet lacking originality)

Grilled Chicken Breast With green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, macaroni and cheese. Served with cornbread

(Grilled chicken with macaroni cheese? Really? Unfortunately, stereotypical mass-market America - as sophisticated as cow dung)

Confetti cake With vanilla ice cream

(GM is reliably informed that Confetti cake is ‘angel cake' - similar to sponge cake in the UK - with multi-coloured specs worked into the mixture. It sounds ideal for a five-year-old's birthday party)

So, the menu served at the illustrious masters Club Dinner sounds no different to what would have been on the menu at any 10-buck diner out on the other side of the hedge, on Washington Road.

We will endeavor to gather reactions to the menu from past champions.
