Thomas Detry enjoyed a stellar amateur career that ended with the Belgian reaching the number five spot in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Detry turned professional in 2016 and has been a consistent performer ever since.

A Challenge Tour winner in 2016, an event where he shot a course record 60 and won by 12 strokes, Detry has also won the World Cup of Golf alongside fellow countryman, Thomas Pieters.

Despite not yet winning on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, it's only a matter of time till the Belgian does so and, in this piece, we have taken a look at what equipment he is using.

A Callaway staff player, Detry upgraded his Callaway Rogue ST Max Triple Diamond Driver in 2024, opting for the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond in a 9-degree loft.

Featuring a MCA Tensei CK Pro Blue 70TX, the Ai Smoke Triple Diamond is the lowest spin model in the Ai Smoke range, as well as having the most compact head at 450cc.

Fairway Woods

Like his driver, Detry carries the Triple Diamond version of the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Fairway Wood, with this particular model being the HL. The HL stands for High Launch, with the 3-wood set at 16.5-degrees, which is slightly on the high side. We believe the shaft used is a MCA Tensei CK Pro Blue 80TX.

Along with the fairway wood, Detry also carries a Callaway Epic Flash Hybrid in 18-degrees. It has an MCA Tensei CK Pro White 100TX and was released in 2017, making it one of the oldest clubs in the Belgian's bag.

Irons

Within Detry's Callaway irons, the Belgian uses a mixed bag, with the 4-iron being an Apex Pro Double Dot in a raw finish. Away from the 4-iron, the remainder of the irons in his bag are the 2018 version of the Callaway Apex MBs, a muscleback iron that is designed to be used by the very best players on the planet.

Ranging from 5-iron to pitching wedge, all the irons have True Temper Project X 6.5 shafts, which we believe are set up +.5 of an inch. What we know for sure is that the Apex MBs have been in the bag for some time, whilst Detry does swap out the higher-iron, occasionally opting for a Callaway Apex Pro 3-iron.

Wedges

Detry carries 50, 54 and 58 degree wedges, with the model in question being the Callaway Jaws Raw in a chrome finish. Interestingly, his 50-degree has a True Temper Project X 6.5 shaft in, but his 54 and 58 seemingly have True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 Tour Issue shafts.

It is claimed that the Jaws Raw feature the most aggressive grooves in golf and come in either a chrome or black plasma finish. In Detry's case, he has opted for the chrome, with the classic shaping, straight leading edge and minimal offset combining to produce a confidence-inspiring look at address.

Putter

The final club in Detry's bag, we believe, is the Odyssey O-Works #7 DBL Bend Putter, that the Belgian has had in the bag for some time now. Although it does have a similar look and face to the Odyssey Toulon Design Las Vegas DB Putter, it is likely that his particular model has Detry's own personal specs and design. What we do know is that it has a SuperStroke Tour 2.0 grip and measures 35".

Ball

The golf ball that Detry uses is the Callaway Chrome Tour X, a model that is new to the market for 2024 and replaces the Chrome Soft X that Detry was using throughout 2023.

In testing, we felt that the Chrome Tour X had strong ball speeds through the bag, as well as high levels of spin and workability. It is also used by various Callaway staffers, including two-time Major winner, Jon Rahm.

Shoes

Detry is known for his unique looks on the Tour, often opting for multi-colored golf gloves. Apparel-wise, he wears Hugo Boss and, when it comes to golf shoes, he has been seen wearing the G/FORE Gallivan2r.

G/FORE make some of the best golf shoes money can buy and, throughout 2024, Detry has been wearing their most recent release, which is one of the best looking golf shoes we've ever laid our eyes on. Featuring an integrated rubber cleat system, it also has a dimpled insole and 3D molded heel cup for excellent comfort.

Matt Cradock
Staff Writer

Matt joined Golf Monthly in February 2021 covering weekend news, before also transitioning to equipment and testing. After freelancing for Golf Monthly and The PGA for 18 months, he was offered a full-time position at the company in October 2022 and continues to cover weekend news and social media, as well as help look after Golf Monthly’s many buyers’ guides and equipment reviews.

Taking up the game when he was just seven years of age, Matt made it into his county squad just a year later and continues to play the game at a high standard, with a handicap of around 2-4. To date, his best round came in 2016, where he shot a six-under-par 66 having been seven-under through nine holes. He currently plays at Witney Lakes in Oxfordshire and his favourite player is Rory McIlroy, despite nearly being struck by his second shot at the 17th during the 2015 BMW PGA Championship.
