Sam Horsfield is an English-born LIV Golf League player who has enjoyed an excellent start to his professional career. Discover more about his life and journey through the game via these facts.
SAM HORSFIELD FACTS
1. Horsfield was born on October 8, 1996 in Manchester, England.
2. He lived in England until the age of five, when his parents and sister Faye relocated to Orlando, Florida.
3. Horsfield played his first ever round of golf aged five and shot 167 from the men's tees.
4. He shot 59 at the age of 13, playing at the Highlands Reserve Golf Club in Orlando.
5. He beat Ian Poulter over nine holes at the age of 14, and Poulter said Horsfield “was the best young player I’ve ever played with.” Since then, the pair have become friends with Poulter mentoring the younger Englishman.
6. Horsfield is co-managed by Terry Mundy, who has been Ian Poulter's caddie for large parts of his career.

7. In 2014, he won the Junior Players Championship and was a semi-finalist at the US Junior Amateur.
8. He is a Manchester United fan in soccer and also follows the Florida Gators (college football).
9. Horsfield spent two years at the University of Florida between 2015 and 2017, winning four individual tournaments as a Gator - three of which were in his freshman year.
10. As an 18-year-old amateur, Horsfield qualified for the 2015 US Open. He repeated the feat in 2016, but missed the cut on both occasions.

11. He finished runner-up at the 2016 Western Amateur, a high-profile amateur tournament that the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Curtis Strange, Ben Crenshaw, Justin Leonard and Hal Sutton all won before turning pro.
12. He turned professional in 2017 off +7.
13. The Manchester-born golfer won the 2017 European Tour Q-School by eight strokes to earn his 2018 European Tour card.
14. In May 2020, he shot 59 at Streamsong in Florida during the Covid-19 break and also carded a 58 at Champions Gate in Florida.

15. His maiden European Tour victory came at the 2020 Hero Open at the Forest of Arden.
16. At the 2020 Celtic Classic, he became the first man to go Win-MC-Win in three consecutive European Tour starts. Both times, Thomas Detry was his closest challenger.
17. Horsfield has won three DP World Tour titles in total. His most recent arrived at the 2022 Soudal Open in Belgium with girlfriend, Issi Bryon as his stand-in caddie.
18. Horsfield's long-time caddie is Mick Seaborn.

19. In 2022, Horsfield signed with the LIV Golf League and ended fifth on his debut at the inaugural event in the United Kingdom.
20. He went on to join Majesticks GC and plays alongside mentor, Poulter as well as Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson.
21. Horsfield missed around five months of the 2023 season after requiring surgery on his right hip.
22. He is yet to win on LIV, coming closest at LIV Golf Nashville in 2024 when he ended second.
