Patrick Reed is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour before moving over to the LIV Golf League. Discover more about his life and career via these facts.
PATRICK REED FACTS
1. His full name is Patrick Nathaniel Reed.
2. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 5, 1990.
3. While at University High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Reed won the 2006 Junior Open Championship and also qualified for the 2007 US Amateur. He led his team to state championships in 2006 and 2007, and also won the state medalist honours in 2007. He earned All-America honours in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
4. Reed majored in business at Augusta State University after beginning college life at the University of Georgia.
5. While at Augusta State, he helped the team win back to back NCAA Division One championships in 2010 and 2011.
6. Reed reached the 2008 US Amateur semi-finals before losing out 3&2 to Danny Lee - a current LIV golfer and, back then, the No.1 amateur in the world. However, Reed partly made up for it by going on to win the 2010 Jones Cup Invitational.

7. The American opted to turn professional at the age of 20, immediately after his second NCAA Division One triumph, and predominantly began life as a pro on the Nationwide Tour.
8. Reed finished T22 at the 2012 PGA Tour Q-School to earn playing rights on the PGA Tour in 2013.
9. Reed got married to wife Justine Karain in 2012, and she served as her husband’s caddie for his first two years on tour, reluctantly giving up the bag only after becoming pregnant. Her younger brother, Kessler, went on to replace Justine as Reed's caddie.
10. He and Justine have two children together, called Windsor Wells and Barrett Benjamin.
11. In 2014, Reed saved his wife's life after she suffered a seizure while in the bath. He was watching TV in the pair's hotel room when he heard splashing coming from the bathroom. Discovering his wife shaking and submerged, he frantically performed the Heimlich manoeuvre before Justine coughed up water and began breathing again. Her doctors said if he was 15 seconds later to discovering the seizure that had caused the incident, she would've died.
12. According to his PGA Tour bio, Reed grew up a fan of Notre Dame football. His favorite teams are the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers, both NFL teams.
13. His favorite quote is from his wife, who says: "nerves just mean you're prepared."
14. Reed won in his first full year on the PGA Tour - defeating Jordan Spieth in a playoff to land the 2013 Wyndham Championship.
15. At the 2014 Humana Challenge, Reed set the PGA Tour record for the most strokes under par after 54 holes. His rounds of 63, 63 and 63 were played on three different courses but ultimately equalled 27-under-par. He finished on 28-under to win by two strokes.
16. Reed has won nine times on the PGA Tour throughout his career - having triumphed at least once per season in every year (aside from 2017) from 2013 to 2021.
17. The Texan represented Team USA at both the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games. He finished T11th in Brazil and T22nd in Japan.
18. Reed won the 2018 Masters by one stroke from Rickie Fowler for his only Major victory so far. He has finished in the top-10 at the other three, too.
19. He has been selected to represent Team USA at the Ryder Cup three times (2014, 2016, and 2018) but has only been a part of a winning set-up once - 2016.
20. Reed is affectionately known as 'Captain America' due to his performances at the Ryder Cup.
21. The American left the PGA Tour in 2022 to join the LIV Golf League. He later went on to become a part of the 4Aces Golf Club and helped them win the inaugural Team Championship in 2022 after ending the individual campaign in fourth.
22. Reed says Lee Trevino is the golfer he most admires due to their conversations about work ethic.
23. Reed has made a hole-in-one five times during competitive play.
24. He carded a 59 during the third round of the Asian Tour's Hong Kong Open in 2024. His 11-under round featured 11 birdies but did not officially count in the record books as preferred lies were in place, according to the Asian Tour.
25. The Texan snapped a near-four-year winless streak in 2024 by triumphing at the Asian Tour's Hong Kong Open. His last win before that was at the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour.
