Patrick Cantlay is one of the best golfers in the world and has been for some time now, even during his amateur days. But if you don't know all that much about him as a person or as a professional player, keep reading to discover more.

Patrick Cantlay facts:

1. He is from Orange County, California and now lives in Jupiter, Florida.

2. Cantlay began playing golf at the age of three.

3. He was World No.1 amateur for 55 weeks between March 2011 and June 2012.

4. Cantlay holds the record for most continuous weeks as World No.1 with 54, and his total of 55 weeks at the top was the most ever until Jon Rahm overtook that total.

5. Cantlay attended Servite High School and won the California State High School Championship as a senior.

6. He was low amateur at both the 2011 US Open and 2012 Masters.

7. Cantlay turned pro in 2012, opting to make the move to the professional ranks early despite two years left of his college degree at UCLA.

8. He played just six events between 2014 and 2016 after fracturing his back.

9. His best friend and caddie Chris Roth, 23, was killed in a hit-and-run in California in February, 2016. The pair were out bar-hopping and Cantlay attempted to save him, although there was ultimately nothing he could do.

10. His first pro victory came in 2013 on the Web.com Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour) at the Colombia Championship.

11. Cantlay cites his interests as ping pong and watching movies, with his favorite director being Quentin Tarantino.

12. He was a member of the 2011 USA Walker Cup side along with the likes of Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Peter Uihlein and Russell Henley. They lost 14-12 at Royal Aberdeen in Scotland.

13. He shot 60 at the 2011 Travelers Championship, which is the joint-lowest ever round on the PGA Tour shot by an amateur (Nick Dunlap at the 2024 American Express).

14. His manager is Mark Steinberg of Excel Sports Management, the same agent and company that looks after Tiger Woods.

15. He won his first PGA Tour title at the 2017 Shriners Open in Las Vegas.

16. His second victory on the PGA Tour came at the 2019 Memorial Tournament, where he triumphed by two after a bogey-free final round of 64. He won the event again in 2021, beating Collin Morikawa in a playoff.

17. He equalled his career-best total of nine birdies in a single round to win his third PGA Tour title at the 2020 Zozo Championship.

18. He won the 2021 FedEx Cup, beating Jon Rahm and Kevin Na, after starting the finale in 1st place at 10-under-par.

19. He was also voted 2021 PGA Tour Player of the Year.

20. He made his Ryder Cup debut in 2021 at Whistling Straits. He won 3.5 points from four matches.

21. He made his second Ryder Cup appearance in 2023, where he was the focus of the event after a story emerged about why he wasn't wearing a cap. It eventually led to a disagreement between his caddie Joe LaCava and some members of Team Europe including Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

22. To date, Cantlay's best finish at a Major is T3 at the 2019 PGA Championship and 2024 US Open. He is considered one of the best male golfers yet to win a Major.

23. His most successful season as a pro arrived in the 2020-21 campaign as a result of four solo wins.

24. He was inducted into the 2022 UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.

25. He is one of six Player Directors on the PGA Tour Policy Board.

26. As well as eight victories, has ten runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour.

27. He made 693/693 putts from inside 3ft during the 2023-23 PGA Tour season, ranking 1st.

28. Cantlay made a hole-in-one during the 2023 RBC Heritage, where he holed out from 195 yards on the 7th hole at Harbour Town.

29. He married his now-wife Nikki Guidish in Italy, the week after the 2023 Ryder Cup.

30. He plays a full bag of Titleist equipment.
