The third round of the Open Championship got underway at 9am, with a two-tee start and players in three balls for the first time in the history of the championship.
Rory McIlroy entered the weekend with a four-shot lead over American Dustin Johnson and six clear of a six-strong group including the likes of Rickie Fowler and Charl Schwartzel.
Schwartzel and Fowler made the best of the unexpectedly benign early conditions, and the likes of Jim Furyk, Victor Dubuisson and Sergio Garcia also made strides up the leaderboard on a birdie-fuelled morning at Royal Liverpool.
Tiger Woods, who made the cut on the mark (+2), started the third round with two consecutive birdies to get back to level par.
