The 146th Open Championship started to warm-up on Saturday when, facing benign conditions, Royal Birkdale was there for the taking.
It was South Africa's Branden Grace who stole the show by recording the lowest ever round in a Major Championship, a 62 in round three.
However, Jordan Spieth also found the course to his liking and strengthened his grip on the Claret Jug over the front nine - although fellow American, Matt Kuchar, was in hot pursuit.
