Willie Park Snr. won the first Open Championship with a score of 174, beating the favourite Old Tom Morris by a clear two strokes.
At the time the tournament was restricted to professionals and saw a total of 8 golfers play three rounds on the Prestwick course in a single day, which at the time was a 12-hole course.
