Martin Kaymer is one of his generation's best players, having won two Major titles and spent eight weeks as World No.1.

The German has also holed the winning putt at the Ryder Cup and won The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in a glittering career.

Martin Kaymer facts:

1. Kaymer worn in Dusseldorf, Germany he now lives in Scottsdale, Arizona after previously being based in Mettman, just east of Dusseldorf.

2. He turned professional in 2005 off a +5 handicap.

3. He began playing golf at the age of 10 with his brother and dad.

4. He used to play soccer and do gymnastics growing up.

5. He cites Ernie Els as his hero.

6. He won as an amateur on the EPD Tour, now known as Pro Golf Tour, in Germany in 2005, before five more victories on that tour in 2006.

7. He shot a 59 (-13) on the EPD Tour in 2006 in a round that included a bogey.

8. He earned his 2007 European Tour card via the Challenge Tour despite only playing in eight events. He won two tournaments and finished 4th in the season-long Order of Merit.

9. He was the European Tour Rookie of the Year in 2007.

10. He shot a 61 (-11) at the 2007 Portugal Masters to set a new course record at the Vilamoura Victoria course.

11. He won his maiden European Tour title at the 2008 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, his first of 11 wins on the European circuit.

12. Kaymer's first Major win came at the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, where he beat Bubba Watson in a playoff.

13. He went on to win the Race to Dubai in 2010.

14. In April 2011, he became the second German man to become World No.1. He held the spot for eight weeks.

15. He holed the winning putt at the 2012 Ryder Cup. Dubbed the 'Miracle at Medinah' due to Europe's comeback from 10-6 down on Saturday night, Kaymer defeated Steve Stricker to win the crucial point.

16. He won the 2014 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

17. His second Major victory came at the 2014 US Open at Pinehurst. He shot 65-65 to start the week and went on to win by eight strokes.

18. Incredibly, Kaymer hasn't won a tournament since the 2014 US Open.

19. In 2015 he squandered a 10-stroke lead during the final round of the Abu Dhabi Championship, with Gary Stal ultimately chasing him down.

20. A common fader of the ball, it is said that he tried to change his swing whilst World No.1 to try and hit more draws in order to win The Masters at Augusta National.

21. He has won over €21.75m on the European Tour

22. He cites his favourite golf course as St Andrews Old, where he won the 2010 Dunhill Links Championship.

23. He made a hole-in-one at the 2020 Oman Open.

24. Kaymer joined LIV Golf in 2022, where he is the captain of all-European side Cleeks GC.

25. Kaymer's caddie is Craig Connelly. Also known as 'Wee Man', the Scot has been with him since 2010 and been on the bag for both of his Major wins.
