If the price of a hole-in-one is a round of drinks, then what on earth will Brandt Snedeker be shelling out at the bar this week having just won a life-changing 10 million dollars (about 6.2 million quid)?

His triumph is being seen as a boost for the Americans ahead of the Ryder Cup. But is it really a help to win such a huge sum just before the world's greatest golf tournament?

A clue may be in the interview he gave immediately after his Tour Championship victory on Sunday night. After a difficult year, the likeable Snedeker said of his win:

"It gave me calm that this is not the most important thing in my world."

That attitude undoubtedly helped him win his huge cheque, and could well reduce the tension of Medinah too.

Snedeker is currently playing the pressure moments of the sport with exceptional composure - he didn't miss one putt inside eight feet last week at East Lake Golf Club.

If he putts as well again, and can find that same level of calm, he may well be getting an expensive round of drinks in on Sunday night.

Every day during the Ryder Cup, Tony Wrighton writes a column on pressure for Golf Monthly. He is a presenter on Sky Sports' Golfing World and Sky Sports News and has written a number of best-selling books on self development and NLP techniques.
