Why you can trust Golf Monthly
Cleveland is famed as one of the great wedge manufacturers of recent decades. The 588 RTX 2.0 has been developed specifically for women golfers after feedback from Tour players.
Cleveland women’s 588 RTX 2.0 wedge RRP: £109
When looking to improve scoring, most amateur golfers could shave shots off each round by ensuring they have the correct wedge set-up in a make and model that they feel comfortable with. Cleveland has been at the forefront of wedge innovation for many years and the 588 design, first introduced in 1988, has become a classic.
This most recent 588 model, specifically aimed at women golfers, features a number of technologies that should help you in the scoring zone.
The club has a subtle cavity back with a larger profile to promote confidence and increase forgiveness on chip and pitch shots. The perimeter weighting means there will be further forgiveness on off-centre hits.
The Rotex face technology in this club delivers exceptional levels of spin and control. The grooves are 15% sharper than in previous models and the micro-milled face produces great friction on the ball and so increased spin.
The wedge comes with three distinct grind options to suit players with different attack angles on short shots. There’s: low bounce, standard bounce and full sole bounce. But a consistent feature is that the leading edge is kept as low to the ground as possible to allow you to be aggressive on lob shots from tighter lies.
The club is available in lofts between 46 and 60 degrees in increments of 2 degrees. All clubs are available left handed.
This is the latest in a long-running series of superb wedges produced by Cleveland in the 588 model. The club offers great versatility and superb levels of feel, spin and control. Definitely one to consider if you’re in the market for new wedges.
