Avant forms part of Puma’s 2024 women’s shoe collection and this model combines modern and traditional styling, which makes it stand out amongst some of the best golf shoes on the market.

It’s available in two color options - white/deep navy or white/deep navy/sand dune, but there’s also a strip of pink around the midsole and the outsole is purple and it’s these two colors that add to its modern look, while the broguing on the heel is a nod to a more traditional design. Other than that, styling is pretty simple with just a small metal Puma badge on the side of the shoe.

Avant has a full grain leather upper and first impression, compared with a shoe such as Ecco’s Biom C4, the leather does not feel particularly soft, but you should never judge a book by its cover. Over 18 holes, this shoe delivered comfort, and I believe the tongue will become even softer after wear over a few rounds. They flexed nicely in tune with my feet as I walked, and without any rubbing, which is always good.

Overall, it’s well cushioned and I particularly like how it fits around the heel area, as my feet felt very secure and stable on every shot. I’m a regular UK size 6, but I would suggest downsizing half a size with this model.

Women’s golf shoes like the G-Fore MG4x2, FootJoy Pro/SL and Duca del Cosma Alesi have a wedge-like, higher midsole to promote their sporty look, but the Avant is low-profile with strategically placed ridges and lugs on the sole for traction, which was noticeably good playing from a variety of lies, considering the ground was soft underfoot. It’s also worth mentioning that these shoes come with one-year waterproof protection.

White won’t suit winter conditions, but this is a lovely summer shoe at an excellent price point that looks good and performs well. For more golf shoe buying advice, check out our guides on the best women's golf shoes, or best spikeless golf shoes.
