PXG Black Ops 0311 Hybrid Review

After how much I enjoyed the performance of the PXG Black Ops 0311 fairway wood, I was eager to get my hands on the hybrid. In order to fully compute whether this club could be deemed one of the best hybrids on the market I tested it both indoors in a controlled environment using 2025 Titleist Pro V1x golf balls and a GCQuad launch monitor as well as out on the golf course to test its versatility.

From a looks standpoint, the Black Ops hybrid ticks many boxes if you’re in the market for a modern aesthetic. It boasts a high-strength carbon crown which has allowed for weight to be redistributed low and towards the perimeter of the clubhead for higher MOI and stability. The rest of the head is made up of gloss black and silver tones giving this club a clean and premium look both in hand and down behind the ball at address.

One of the things I noticed immediately when resting this club down at address was how flush the face sits to the ground. A new square face design is made from a strong steel and has been made 10.5 percent thinner than previous models to maximize face flexion and therefore increase ball speeds on shots struck across the whole of the face. The hitting area does appear a little longer from heel to toe than other models on the market but I feel as though this just inspires more confidence.

I found the Black Ops to be one of the most forgiving hybrids during my testing session and It proved to be particularly effective when advancing the ball down the hole from the rough. The Black Ops 0311 hybrid wasn’t necessarily one of the quickest hybrids in regards to ball speed but was by no means a slouch. It produced 143.1mph on average which saw it sit around the middle of the pack but this speed combined with generous spin and an average launch of 13.1° is what made it prove so valuable when the ball was sat down in a poor lie.

The sound of the PXG Black Ops 0311 hybrid has been significantly muted compared to previous models, especially the 0211 range. While still not as quiet as the likes of the TaylorMade Qi35, the Black Ops hybrid provides a pitch similar to that of the impressive Cobra DS-ADAPT hybrid - lively but not distracting.

Overall I thought the PXG Black Ops hybrid was very impressive and a solid all-round performer. Because of its easy high-launching nature and lightweight design, It could be considered one of the best hybrids for higher handicappers but thanks to three interchangeable weights on the sole, the CG could be brought forward a little for those with faster swing speeds looking to keep the flight down. Originally at retail for $329 they are quite an investment but I feel as though the price is, for the most part most, justified by the performance.
