St. Andrews Bakery Protein Snack Golf Balls Review
The Golf Monthly team tries out these new protein balls from the St Andrews Bakery company.
These new snacks taste delicious and also don't have that chalky, flaky taste that many protein snacks usually have. We tried them out on an equipment testing day and the feedback was wholly positive from the Golf Monthly team thanks to the taste, ingredients and convenience.

Why you can trust Golf Monthly
As someone who has had my fair share of protein golf snacks, I was excited to try the new Protein Balls from the St. Andrews Bakery. Each bag contains 6 protein balls which feature a smorgasbord of good, natural ingredients and as a result you get a boost in high-quality proteins as well as vitamins like D3 and B12 - all of which are ideal for helping you maintain that energy throughout your round. (As someone who often starts to flag from the 14th hole, this was music to my ears).
As the packaging shows the flavor is salted caramel but I didn't think it was overly sweet, and I was pleased to see no artificial sweeteners have been added, nor added sugars. It is worth saying that these do contain almonds and cashews, and may contain traces of other nuts so best to avoid if you have a nut allergy, but they are gluten free as well. To be totally honest the only negative I could think of is that only 6 balls come in every pack, but from looking around online, you can often get larger boxes of them - for example I found one retailer that sells boxes of 10 bags!
But don't just take my word for how delicious these snacks are, because on a recent testing day I got some samples for the entire Golf Monthly team to try and below is the feedback they gave.
In my experience, some protein snacks can taste a little strange. Happily, this wasn’t the case here as this actually tasted of salted caramel. It wasn’t too sweet either. I particularly enjoyed the slightly crunchy texture. A great snack to stash in your golf bag!
Anything that is salted caramel normally gets my vote and this was no exception. Great tasting and gave me a good energy boost but without the crash of sugar laden snacks like chocolate and flapjacks. I’m not a great one for eating a lot during a round and I really hate anything that makes my hands messy/greasy so these balls ticked both those boxes. I liked the fact that the packet gives you 6 mini servings making it easy to have one ball every few holes. Only negative is that they are dangerously moreish!
Genuinely filling. Didn't have that weird dry, powdery protein mouthfeel that some snacks like this have. Nice flavor without being too sweet.
These were absolutely beautiful. The taste and texture was spot on, and I would have demolished another bag or two if there were any more around! They combine sweet and salty wonderfully well, all while mixing a little chewyness with a soft bite. I’ve never had a protein ball before, but I can imagine anything else from here could be a disappointment!
I'm a big fan of a protein ball but so often a big one is dry and fairly uninspired. This bag of 6 little balls was the perfect solution to my problem. Easy to split across the round, great for sharing and they are absolutely delicious. The perfect pick me up when energy is running low. You can't taste that sweetener flavor that often lingers after a low sugar snack and who doesn’t love salted caramel. My only complaint is that there were none left after I’d shared my first bag!
Some protein snacks can have a slightly odd, claggy texture but these tasted great and went down a treat. I tucked into them after about 14 holes when I was starting to flag on a particularly hilly course and they gave me the boost I needed to finish my round on a high.
