Woods confirms place at Players Championship
World number one Tiger Woods has announced his entry to the coveted Players Championship at Sawgrass, Florida starting on May 6
World number one Tiger Woods has announced his entry to the coveted Players Championship at Sawgrass, Florida, starting on May 6.
The 14-time Major champion recently confirmed his place at the Quail Hollow Championship, the week before the Players commences.
Woods won the Players Championship - often labeled the ‘fifth major' - in 2001.
"This is our event and it always attracts one of the best fields of the year," Woods told his website. "It's a tournament everybody wants to win."
The executive director of the championship, Jay Monahan, said: "We are thrilled to add Tiger Woods to the field.
"We really appreciate the fact that he gave us advance notice so we can generate additional excitement here in the community."
Despite claiming he would take a break following his comeback at the Masters, the 34-year old has also announced his defence of Philadelphia's AT&T National from July 1-4.

"I'm really looking forward to defending my title at the AT&T National," Woods said. "Philly is a great sports town, and I'm excited to play at Aronimink Golf Club."
However for the first time in four years, Woods will not host the event after he was stripped of the role by AT&T in the wake of his private life scandals.
As Woods confirms more appearances, including the US Open at Pebble Beach, many will be anticipating his entry at the Open Championship in St Andrews, where he has won in 2000 and 2005.
