Volvo World Match Play: Advised golf bets & prices
Paul Krishnamurty's betting guide for the Volvo World Match Play. Robert Allenby and Anthony Kim look to be the value bets as the famous event leaves Wentworth and heads to Finca Cortesin in Spain.
Group B includes Kaymer, Sergio Garcia, ROBERT ALLENBY and Oliver Wilson. Besides the fitness doubt around Kaymer, I'm desperate to oppose Garcia, who let supporters down once again on his home course last week. While its tempting to recall his prolific record in fourballs and foursomes at the Ryder Cup, his singles record is dire, both in that event and the WGC-Matchplay. Allenby on the other hand has often given the impression that he could be one of the world's great match players, and looks a cracking each-way bet at 20/1. His play-off record is legendary, and testimony to the Australian's 'bottle'. Moreover, his sixth-placed performance last week in Spain was very encouraging, because he was never likely to hole enough putts to catch the leaders. Finally, Group D consists of tournament favourite Lee Westwood, Camilo Villegas, ROSS FISHER and the injured Singh. Of course, Westwood is the one to beat, but does he really deserve to be less than half the price of Fisher and Villegas? After all, 18-hole matchplay is notoriously random and both the younger players showed great liking for the format in this year's WGC-Matchplay, particularly Fisher who reached the semis. Again, preference is marginal, but Fisher is the pick despite the absence of recent form. He mentioned that he was really looking forward to this event earlier in the summer, and how he felt his game was ideally suited to matchplay. VOLVO WORLD MATCH PLAY advised bets: 2.5pts ew ANTHONY KIM @ 14/1 (GENERAL) 2.5pts ew ROSS FISHER @ 14/1 (GENERAL, 16/1 LADBROKES) 2pts ew ROBERT ALLENBY @ 20/1 (SPORTINGBET, BLUESQ, LADBROKES, HILLS)
