Volvo China Open: golf betting guide
Golf Monthly tipster Tom Clarke pens his golf betting guide to this week's tournament on the European Tour, the Volvo China Open
The European Tour remains in Asia this week for the Volvo China Open at Binhai Lake Golf Club in Tianjin. Branden Grace of South Africa is the defending champion. The tournament is being contested at Binhai Lake for the second year running. It's a Pete Dye design that can be stretched to almost 7,700 yards. But it's a track that can yield birdies - Branden Grace's winning total of 21-under in 2012 is proof of that.
The field does not contain any outstanding performers for 2013 and the winner could easily come with a high price.
Pablo Larrazabal at 25/1 with Ladbrokes. One of the most frustrating players on the European Tour, superb from tee to green, but incredibly inconsistent with the putter. However has had three top 10s in the last month and coming off a tied 6th last week in South Korea, if birdies need to be made he will give himself at least a chance.
David Howell at 40/1 with Ladbrokes. A no brainer each way bet here, he has made 11 cuts from as many events this year on the European Tour with four of those finishes being in the top 10. Shot a nice 68 last Sunday to move up the rankings at the Ballantines as well.
Peter Whiteford at 50/1 with Ladbrokes. He looks like much too big a price, having only missed out in a play-off last weekend. If scoring conditions are favourable, look out for the Scot to perform well again - was also 18th here last year with a closing round of 66.
Jbe Kruger at 80/1 with Ladbrokes. Someone else who had at 18th place finish last season and who has had a solid if unspectacular season so far, amassing €138,878 and sitting in 67th place in the Race to Dubai rankings.
Jeev Milkha Singh at 100/1 with Ladbrokes. Having a strange season, made only 4 cuts from 8, but then finished top 25 in all of those made cuts. As each way bets go I have made worse looking ones than this one.
