Captain Cook embarked on his voyages of discovery from this Yorkshire port, but Whitby GC’s own journey actually started on the village common at Goathland nine miles away before moving to its present location in 1895. The course commands wonderful views from cliffs looking over the North Sea, with an embankment from the long-closed Scarborough to Middlesbrough railway forming an interesting feature on the front nine.
