Valero Texas Open golf betting guide

It's a strange looking book for this week's PGA Tour action and the Valero Texas Open. In the weeks after the Masters a few of the top players take some time off, some deciding to rest and work on a few things, and betting has its problems.

One player who is sticking at it, and the man heading the betting, is America's Matt Kuchar. 'Smiley' is normally very consistent but his closing 77 at the Heritage last week was a worry for Kuchar fans. Maybe he's due a rest, and for that reason we won't be backing the favourite at just

10/1.

That the next two players in the betting are priced at

20/1 gives you an idea of the quality of field this week. There are some big names to watch out for, such as KJ Choi and Johnson Wagner but, in Choi's case, form is a bit up and down at the moment so it's difficult to make a bet with any real confidence.

We've put the larger pot of our betting allowance on the Volvo China Open this week. However, we like Kevin Na at

20/1. He backed up a nice joint 12th at the Masters with a top ten at the Heritage and you can find him at

20/1 with Ladbrokes. In a weaker field, that's appealing.

Scrolling down the book and there are a host of players who jump out for no other reason that in seasons gone by they've returned some decent money for this column. Justin Leonard and Anthony Kim are a massive

66/1, but with good reason. For now, at least, they're a shadow of their best.

However, if you fancy a log shot, Matt Bettencourt who finished tied sixth at the Heritage last week, is 100/1 and worth a small punt.
