Triple crown for Helen Alfredsson
A great deal of emotion for the 15th tournament which rewards the first three-time Evian Masters champion. Following four rounds of a closely-fought competition between the best women players in the world, it is finally Helen Alfredsson who is victorious at the end of a 3-hole play-off!
On the highly selective course at the Evian Masters Golf Club, the competition took place in optimal conditions, producing much too-ing and fro-ing during the final between the young South Korean player Na-Yeon Choi, Brazil s Angela Park and the Swede and tournament ambassador 2008, Helen Alfredsson.
At the final hole, anything is still possible The three players are tied on 273 on 15-under and a 3-hole play-off is required to name the winner. Angela Park is the first to leave the game, shooting par while her playing partners make birdie. Na-Yeon Choi is next to give up her place.
At the end of this incredible day of suspense, it is Helen Alfredsson who lifts the trophy again in this magical place, fifteen years after her first victory, and ten years after her second. Three victories to her name, a three-hole play-off and a course record of 63 (-9): Helen Alfredsson has done much more than write a page of Evian Masters history.
Na-Yeon Choi therefore takes her place on the 2nd step of the podium, followed by Angela Park. The perfect scenario for a truly sporting final, worthy of a tournament which in 15 editions has become the most important tournament in the world alongside the US Open.
Next year s dates: 23 to 26 July 2009.
