Tiger Woods wins AT&T National
Tiger Woods claimed his third PGA Tour win of the season with victory in the AT&T National at Congressional Country Club, to remind everyone that he will be the man to beat in two weeks time when the Open Championship gets underway.
Tiger Woods won his third PGA Tour title of the season at the AT&T National, fending off challenges from compatriots Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan.
Woods, who was hosting the event, was out in the last group with Kim, but a course record-equalling 62 at Congressional Country Club from Ryder Cup star Mahan set the clubhouse lead at 12-under par.
However, Woods, out in his famous last day red colours, relished the opportunity to remind his rivals he is still the man to beat despite not finding his best form at the US Masters or US Open.
The 14-time Major winner slammed in a critical 20-foot birdie putt on 16 as Mahan warmed up for a potential play-off, but the world number one carded pars on the testing final two holes to deny his fellow American.
Woods also made history by winning his own event, joining legends Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus in that elite group - the latter pair having hosted and won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Memorial Tournament respectively.
Kim, who was paired with Woods in a PGA Tour event for the first time, played himself out of contention largely due to a bad day on the greens.
Meanwhile, US Open winner Lucas Glover recorded another top-10 finish, and England's Justin Rose discovered some vital form ahead of Turnberry with a pair of 69s over the weekend.
