Tiger Woods comeback at Accenture World Matchplay confirmed
Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will be making his long-awaited comeback at this week's Accenture World Matchplay in Tucson, Arizona
Tiger Woods has confirmed that he will make his comeback at this week’s Accenture World Matchplay event in Tucson, Arizona.
Woods, who recently became a father for the second time, underwent reconstructive knee surgery to fix a damaged cruciate ligament after his US Open success and has had to adapt his swing, but the 33-year-old is in a positive mood.
“One of the great things about coming back was with the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), my bones aren’t moving any more,” said Woods.
“That’s a very comforting feeling, hitting a golf ball and not having your bones slide all over the place. One, it didn’t feel good, and two, it caused a lot of pain.”
The announcement is undoubtedly good news for the tournament, albeit, perhaps not what first round opponent Brendan Jones wanted to hear.
Jones has been reluctant to talk to the press, reportedly upset that the media have shown more of an interest in him only when it became known that he'd be facing the 14-time Major winner.
Despite his lengthy layoff, Woods has held on to the number one spot in the World Rankings, although Sergio Garcia has cut his once considerable lead in the standings to just over two points.
