The Belfry pays tribute to Seve
Staff at the famous Ryder Cup course pay tribute to Seve Ballesteros. Flags were at half mast and a minute's silence was held
Flags at The Belfry were at half mast on Wednesday and a minute's silence was also held in tribute to the golfing great Seve Ballesteros.
As the funeral began in Ballesteros' hometown of Pedrena, Spain, staff of The Belfry gathered at a plaque dedicated to the Spaniard, which sits on the 10th tee. Ballesteros famously drove the par-4 10th in 1978.
"It was a fitting tribute
to the man who with one shot on the 10th hole made The Brabazon course
at The Belfry world-famous within a year of it opening," said Gary Silcock,
director of golf at the Midlands resort.
"It was very moving to see all the gofers playing their respects out there today, as well as everyone from golf professionals to caterers observing the silence on the hole where Seve first drove the green in 1978 and again in 1985 when he helped Europe regain the Ryder Cup here," he added.
