Tee Time at the Cinema
Golf Monthly's guide to our favourite golf related film scenes, from Bill Murray's loveably wacky greenkeeper in Caddyshack to 007's legendary gamesmanship on the course in Goldfinger.
From Bill Murray?s loveably wacky greenkeeper in Caddyshack to 007?s legendary gamesmanship on the course in Goldfinger, golf has seen its fair share of memorable moments up on the big screen throughout the course of cinematic history. Golf Monthly has diligently scoured the internet in search of a definitive collection of great golf-related in moments in film. There were many candidates for our elite list of video clips, but in the end only a half-dozen made the final cut. Without further ado, we at Golf Monthly proudly present golf?s greatest cinematic moments.
Caddyshack: Cinderella Story
Before Bill Murray was a cinematic icon he was Carl Speckler, Bushwood Country Club?s gopher-hunting groundskeeper with dreams of Augusta glory. Murray?s Dalai Lama quote in Caddyshack is brilliant, but his commentary of Speckler?s improbable run at a Green Jacket always has us in hysterics.
Happy Gilmore: That?s Your Home!
This classic clip from the funniest golf movie not named Caddyshack is Adam Sandler at his comedic best. Fellow Saturday Night Live veteran Kevin Nealon is also excellent as new-age golfer Gary Potter, Happy?s spiritual advisor.
The Legend of Bagger Vance: Seeing The Field
Robert Redford?s adaptation of Steven Pressfield?s novel had a poor showing at the box office, which is a shame considering that it was a quality film with a terrific cast. Fictional local golf legend Rannulph Junuh, played by Matt Damon, competes with Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen for a $10,000 prize with the help of his mysterious caddie Bagger Vance (Will Smith). Any golfer will appreciate this scene where Vance gives Junuh some insight into finding the perfect swing.

Caddyshack: Words From The Wise
When Caddyshack first entered cinemas in 1980, Chevy Chase was at the peak of his comedic career. Just as much a philosopher as a trick-shot master, his character Ty Webb is a consummate scene-stealer in this legendary comedy. Chase has never been more at the top of his game as in this scene where he gives advice to his university-bound caddie.
Jackass The Movie: Tee Shot Terrors
We may cringe at most of the stunts that Johnny Knoxville and his merry group of pranksters attempt, but it?s hard to tire of something so brilliant as terrorising uptight golfers with a foghorn during their tee-shots.
Goldfinger: You Forgot Your Ball...
It may not be a golf movie or even have much of anything to do with golf, but this scene is possibly the most famous cinematic moment to have taken place at a golf course. It?s only fitting that our great game is featured in one of the great moments in the history of the Bond franchise.
