Ted Potter Jr wins The Greenbrier Classic
PGA TOur rookie Ted Potter Jr won his first PGA Tour event with a play-off victory over Troy Kelly
A final round of 64 helped Ted Potter Jr make a play-off against fellow American Troy Kelly which the rookie from Florida won to claim his first PGA Tour victory at The Greenbrier Classic.
Potter managed to make the play-off against veteran Kelly with an incredible finish to his final round. He played the last four holes in just 11 strokes including two birdies and an eagle to match the total of Kelly who failed to pick up a birdie over that final stretch.
The day had started with US Open Champion Webb Simpson leading the field and expected to win the event. However he followed 59 holes without a bogey with four in five holes from 12 thru 16 to put himself out of the running.
Potter is a graduate of theweb.com Tour (Formerly Nationwide Tour) which he had mixed success since 2007, he missed 24 cuts from 24 events on his first season, until finishing 11th on the money list last season to get his PGA Tour card.
His future looks bright now as he has secured his playing rights on the PGA Tour for another two years, will play at The Open in a few weeks time, should make the FedEx Cup playoffs as well as playing at the 2013 Masters.
Potter said of his victory. "Finally to win, I mean, I know it's my first year out here, but just to win, period, I mean, it was just a big relief."
