Stenson wins WGC-Match Play
Henrik Stenson continued his great form with victory in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, beating Geoff Ogilvy in the final in Tucson, Arizona.
Henrik Stenson moved his game to yet another level with victory in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, defeating defending champion Geoff Ogilvy 2&1 in the final. The 36-hole final produced mixed golf as both Stenson and Ogilvy struggled to maintain their form in the desert heat. Stenson went 2up with birdies at the first two holes but the Australian then won the next four to reverse the score. However, Stenson fought back and after 18 holes was again 2up. The lead changed hands again but the Swede made his decisive move over the final nine holes. He came home solidly to take the title and would have won earlier had Ogilvy not made good putts at 13 and 14 to stay in contention. "It's such a long week and everyone's exhausted but I?m delighted to hang in there,? said Stenson. This was Stenson?s first appearance in the United States since becoming a full member of the PGA Tour. The Swede says he will spend more time in America this season. The win comes after defeating a strong field in the Dubai Desert Classic and moves him to the top of the European Tour Order of Merit as well as up to number five in the world.
