Sorenstam signs off with third place in Denmark
Annika Sorenstams final appearance on European soil

Making her final appearance in Europe, Annika Sorenstam finished a creditable third in the Nykredik masters in Denmark, behind second place Melissa Reid, and eventual winner Martina Eberl.
Going into the final round Sorenstam began 6 strokes behind and a win in her last event on European soil looked unlikely. Sorenstam carded a final round 71 consisting of three birdies and a bogey, which left her on a total score of 210 some five shots adrift of Eberl.
Winner of 72 LPGA tour titles and ten majors, Sorenstam will retire after the inaugural Dubai ladies masters to begin a family and take on other avenues in her growing business plans.
After finishing her final round Sorenstam said “ I wasn’t thinking of it as my final tournament in Europe I was totally focused on my game, but at the last hole I was thinking, now it comes to an end”.
The eventual winner Marina Eberl went into the final round at the Simons golf club tied second with Sorenstam on 7 under par, but fired a superb 7 under par 66 consisting of 8 birdies and a solitary bogey to take the title by one shot ahead of overnight leader Melissa Read who slumped to a disappointing final round 73, her worst of the week. It was Eberls third Ladies European tour title since 2003, also moving her up to third on the 2008 money list.
