Sony Open in Hawaii: golf betting guide
Our tipster analyses the field and comes up with some top tips ahead of the Sony Open in Hawaii, the PGA Tour's first full-field event of 2013
The second event of the PGA Tour season, the Sony Open in Hawaii, takes place this week at Wailae Country Club, a short ferry ride from the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
It is the first full-field event of the season, and participants will be looking to make a strong start to the 2013 FedEx Cup.
The field contains an eclectic mix of players, ranging from seasoned professionals and major winners to Q-School and Web.com graduates.
Indeed, all 25 of those that progressed from America's second tour are in the field this week.
The tournament once again returns to 7,080-yard Wailae Country Club, one of the tightest and windiest courses on the PGA Tour roster.
Johnson Wagner came out on top last year but, given his recent form, a repeat success seems somewhat unlikely. Keegan Bradley, at 16/1 with Ladbrokes, is a deserved favourite this week. He notched a top-5 finish at the weather-affected Hyundai Tournament of Champions last week and finished 13th in this event last year. Last season on the PGA Tour, he led the All-around ranking and finished 11th in the Total Driving category. He also has the attributes to deal with strong wind, which is often a feature of this tournament. Ryan Moore, at 25/1 with Ladbrokes, should be well suited to Wailae. He is one of the straightest drivers on tour and hits a lot of greens in regulation, which helped account for his All-Around ranking of seventh on the PGA Tour last season. He will be well rested after a long off-season and, whilst Moore doesn't normally play in Hawaii, he finished sixth at the Tournament of Champions in 2010.
Brian Gay is hard to ignore this week at 40/1 with Ladbrokes. The American usually thrives on short shot-maker's courses where accuracy is paramount, as he showed with a 10-shot victory at Harbour Town links in 2009. What's more, he hasn't finished outside the top 25 in his last four appearances at Wailae.
Charlie Wi, at 80/1 with Ladbrokes, is well priced this week. It is a golf course that should suit the accurate Wi, and he has enjoyed successes on similar course in the past. He is also adept at playing in the wind, and could feature if he finds his renowned putting touch.

Luke List, at 150/ with Ladbrokes, is worth a small each way bet this week. The young American finished the 2012 Web.com season fourth in the rankings, and even though debutants don't often fare well at the Sony Open, his odds seem relatively generous.
