Sergio Garcia victorious at Ho Tram Open

The Spaniard won his first title in two years in Vietnam this weekend.

Sergio Garcia ended a two year wait for a title by coming through a four-man play-off to win the Ho Tram Open on Sunday.

The Spaniard defeated Himmat Rai on the second play-off hole of the Asian Tour’s inaugural tournament in Vietnam.

Lin Wen-Tang and Thaworn Wiratchant failed to make it past the first hole, allowing Garcia to triumph on the Greg Norman-designed course.

“After you’ve been up there and you don’t win, a lot of things go through your mind and this win will help give me a little bit more confidence,” said Garcia.

“Winning is never easy. I was fortunate to get a second chance after I pretty much gave it away.”

Garcia made a double bogey on 17 after finishing the first nine holes in just 29. As a result of Garcia's dropped shots, the Asian trio of Rai, Wen-Tang and Wiratchant were able to force extra holes after carding final rounds of 67, 67 and 70 respectively.

A 35ft birdie on the first play-off hole and a par on the second ensured the 35-year-old took the title.

“It was a strange day. It felt like I was so much under control, the way I played the front nine,” the Ryder Cup veteran said.

“Then I hit a bad tee shot on 10 but I still managed to get it back together and had some chances which I didn’t make.

“Then I hit a poor shot on 17. I guess they gave me a hat in my hand, I gave it away and they gave me another chance. It was just luck for me.”

Without a win since the Qatar Masters in 2014, Garcia finished 31st in the Race to Dubai rankings this year.

He finished second twice on the PGA Tour last season, with his best major result of the last 12 months coming at The Open in July when he finished T6.
