Seniors And Ladies Round-Up
Bobby Wadkins wins his first Major on the Champions Tour in Michigan, while in Ohio Mi-Hyun Kim wins her second event of the season on the LPGA Tour.
American Bobby Wadkins won his first major on the Champions Tour on Sunday at the TPC at Michigan, by securing the Senior Players Championship despite a double bogey on the 18th. His six on the final hole ensured a final total of -14 and a one shot victory over fellow American Jim Thorpe, with this season?s leading money winner Jay Haas tied for third alongside overnight leader Loren Roberts at -12.
Earlier in the round Wadkins had fired five straight birdies on the back nine, which proved decisive despite his nervous finish. Wadkins is the younger brother of Lanny Wadkins, the former USPGA champion and US Ryder Cup captain. He never won on the USPGA Tour, but has now won three events on the senior equivalent.
Elsewhere, South Korea?s Mi-Hyun Kim defeated Natalie Gulbis in a sudden-death playoff at the LPGA?s Jamie Farr Classic in Ohio. Both ladies shot final rounds of 65 to finish at -18, with Kim securing birdies on the 16th and 17th to force the playoff and take the event into sudden-death.
The first two holes were unable to provide a breakthrough, but Kim sank an 18-foot birdie putt on the third extra hole to land her second win of the season. Paula Creamer also shot a 65 to finish one shot behind the pair, while Kim?s compatriot Se-Ri Pak finished in fourth after a closing round of 66.
