Sam Torrance still producing the goods
Former Ryder Cup captain and John Letters ambassador Sam Torrance finished tied for second with Denis O'Sullivan and one shot behind winner Santiago Luna in the Scottish Senior Open.
Sam Torrance, who recently signed a multi-year extension with Scottish club maker John Letters at the Senior Open Championship finished with a four under par total over three days around The Fairmont St Andrews.
Torrance shot a 70, 72 and another 70 on the final day to have a total of 212 around the golf course he helped to design.
The 43-time tour winner was "delighted" with the way he played and added: "It's my last tournament in my 50s so i'm pleased."
He continued by saying that "It was a nightmare out there with the long putter in the wind," but he managed to hole two "crackers" at the 17th and 18th holes, saving par from five foot at 17 and sinking an eight foot putt for birdie at the last finishing in style.
With the help of his Letters' products, he managed to pick up a check for €24,641.71 and move into the top 25 for the Seniors Order of Merit.
After re-signing with Scotland's finest club manufacturer, John Letters Managing Director John Andrew said that they are "lucky" to have Torrance as a representative for the brand, and that there was "no hesitation" in offering a contract extension to the golfer.
Andrew finished by saying: "I can think of no one better to work with."
