Romero claims maiden European Tour title
Argentina's Andres Romero confirmed his arrival as a major force on the European Tour with an emphatic victory in the Deutsche Bank Players' Championship of Europe.
After coming so close to winning the Open Championship only a week ago, Andres Romero claimed his first victory on the European Tour on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Argentine birdied his final hole to finish three shots ahead and take the Deutsche Bank Players' Championship of Europe. Englishman Oliver Wilson and in-form Dane Søren Hansen finished tied for second on 16-under.
Romero continued to prove himself as an exciting young talent with 22 birdies and three eagles during the week. He began the final round two shots ahead of Zane Scotland after both men played some thrilling golf to put themselves into the final group on Sunday. Scotland shot a disappointing final round of 76 to drop back into a tie for 11th.
"It feels great to win my first tournament," said Romero. "I didn?t expect the win to come this quick but the last tournament I had a great result and was playing great at the Open. I was thinking this was the time for me."
The win earns Romero ?600,000 and moves him up to fifth on the European Tour Order of Merit. He also gains a place in this week's WGC Bridgestone Invitational and confirms his entry into the USPGA Championship next month.
