Proud Woods to become a father
World number one Tiger Woods has used his birthday message to announce that he is to become a father for the first time.
Tiger Woods has announced that his wife Elin is expecting their first child this summer. He made the news public via a traditional birthday message posted on his official website.
Woods, who turned 31 on December 30, also revealed he would not be playing in the season's traditional curtain-raiser on the US PGA Tour, the Mercedes Championship in Hawaii, which starts on Thursday.
Instead of teeing off, he will join Phil Mickelson and 10 other members of the world's top 20 on the sidelines. Woods, who clinched two Majors and first place on the 2006 USPGA Tour Money List in 2006, will now start his golfing year in San Diego at the Buick Invitational, starting on January 25.
