PGA Golf de Catalunya to host Open de España
The European Tour’s Open de España will be returning to familiar territory in 2009 at PGA Golf de Catalunya
The European Tour’s Open de España will be returning to familiar territory in 2009 at PGA Golf de Catalunya.
The course recently held the final stage of Q-School and proved a popular venue - but last staged the Open de España in 2000.
Keith Waters, Director of International Policy for The European Tour, said: “The European Tour is delighted to be returning to the outstanding PGA Golf de Catalunya for the 2009 Spanish Open.
We had a hugely successful tournament there in 2000 and will return to a venue with outstanding facilities that will provide a true test of golf for our Members.”
The resort has just recently undergone some significant upgrades, including a new clubhouse and course improvements.
And the resort’s two courses even underwent name changes with the Green Course now being called the Stadium Course and the Red Course now being called the Tour Course.
Juan del Rio, CEO of PGA Golf de Catalunya, said: “PGA Golf de Catalunya’s Stadium Course is widely regarded as one of the best golf courses in Europe and we are very excited to have been selected to host the Reale Open de España.”
