Padraig Harrington wins Johor Open
Padraig Harrington ended a two-year drought at the weekend with a stunning victory over a strong field in Malaysia
Padraig Harrington claimed his first title in two years with an accomplished 69 in the final round of the Malaysian Johor Open.
Despite struggling with an injured neck, the Irishman finished on 20-under-par, finishing three shots clear of Noh Seung-yul who carded a superb final-round 65.
The 39-year-old started the final day with a five-shot advantage over the rest of the field and managed to keep his composure through a two-hour delay caused by a thunderstorm, firing three birdies in his first four holes.
Harrington went on to drop a shot with a bogey on the 5th, but birdies at 11,13 and 14 proved enough to hold off the rest of the field.
Two dropped shots late in the round showed Harrington was suffering from nerves but did not stop him from claiming his first victory since the 2008 USPGA Championship.
The Ryder Cupper, said: "It's always nice to win and it's even nicer when there's been a bit of a drought."
Colin Montgomerie, Europe's triumphant Ryder Cup captain, also produced a solid performance over the week, sharing 11th place on 10-under.
