Novice to scratch golfer backed by Wilson Golf
Wilson Golf is backing 42-year-old David West to fulfill his dream of going from a complete novice to a scratch golfer in just 12 months

Wilson Golf is backing 42-year-old David West to fulfill his dream of going from a complete novice to a scratch golfer in just 12 months.
West started to play golf in the summer after being made redundant and took his first lesson on how to grip a club in August, shortly before he purchased a set of Wilson X31 clubs.
The Hertfordshire novice then started an intensive six-day-a-week programme designed by assistant professional James Hull at the Mount Pleasant Golf Club in Bedfordshire to reduce his scoring by an estimated 131 shots and bring him down to scratch.
"I caught the golfing bug from the very first lesson and have now set myself a challenge which I believe will be of interest to all golfers," said West.
"It's going to be a tough year, but a challenge is only noteworthy if it's difficult. There's been a lot of improvement that hasn't shown up on the course yet, but James has agreed to coach me for the year as he really likes the idea that anything is possible with belief, hard work...and an excellent coach!"
West will be launching a blog on his own website novice2scratch.com to keep fellow golfers abreast of his progress.
