Murray scoops Player of the Month award
Alan Murray has been awarded the first Peak Performance Player of the Month award for his performances on the Ivobank PGA EuroPro Tour during May
The Irishman tops the Order of Merit after four events, with a win at Collingtree Park following a runners-up spot at The Shire and a fifth place finish at Faithlegg in the last event. The man from Bray actually missed the cut in the first event at Wensum Valley but recovered brilliantly to receive the award from the Tour’s official clothing sponsor.
“I’m delighted to win the first Peak Performance Player of the Month award,” said Murray. “Missing the cut at the opener at Wensum Valley was disappointing but I’ve done well since. I followed that up with some solid golf at The Shire London, then the win at Collingtree Park and another decent effort at Faithlegg – so I’m happy so far.
“I’ve shown a good attitude and I’ve been very steady, a lot of the credit goes to my coach Karl Holmes at Greystones Golf Club and Alison Dyer, a sports psychologist I’ve worked with. Along with my family, they’ve been there when things haven’t gone my way and offered me great support.”
Alan Murray is one of three Irish winners on the Tour this year so far, with Brian McElhinney winning at The Shire London and Noel Fox coming out on top at Faithlegg. The 30 year-old Player of the Month doesn’t have an explanation for the players from the Emerald Isle doing so well, but he hopes it continues.
“I don’t think there’s a secret to it – all the Irish guys seem to be doing well and I think that when you see someone you know performing it spurs you on,” said Murray. “I room with Foxy and it was no surprise to see him win, and of course Brian has a fantastic amateur CV, so hopefully it can continue.”
Alan wins a £1,000 voucher to spend on Peak Performance’s golf range at Harrods and a specially embroidered jacket. He will join the four other winners of the Peak Performance Player of the Month in a play-off at the end of the season in an 18-hole play-off with a prize purse of £10,000.
